Allegation of Attack on BNP Leader’s House in Shariatpur

An allegation of an attack, vandalism, and looting has been made against the house of BNP leader Shakhawat Sikder and his brothers in the Nilkandi village of Shariatpur Municipality's 9th Ward. The incident occurred on the night of Friday, March 7.

Shakhawat Sikder, the BNP president of the 9th Ward, and his nephew, former Chhatra Dal leader Roni Sikder, stated that the altercation started on Facebook that evening over a post. They said that Yusuf Sikder’s son Tamim Sikder and Tanveer Sikder had an argument with local residents Robin Mollah, Rana Mollah, Zakir Mollah, and Raja Mollah, among others.

Following this, on the same night, a group of people attacked and looted the houses of Shakhawat Sikder, Yunus Sikder, Yusuf Sikder, Monir Sikder, and Ruhul Sikder in the 9th Ward. They reportedly stole around 5 lakh taka in cash and 12 tolas of gold jewelry. A case is being prepared in connection with this incident.

In response to the attack, Shakhawat Sikder, the BNP president of Shariatpur’s 9th Ward, said, "Tamim Sikder and Tanveer Sikder had an argument with local residents Robin Mollah, Rana Mollah, Zakir Mollah, and Raja Mollah. Angered by this, they attacked our houses and looted approximately 5 lakh taka in cash and 12 tolas of gold jewelry. We demand justice and the arrest of those involved under the law."

On the other hand, Rana Mollah claimed, "At the time of the incident, I was at the Shariatpur Shilpakala Academy attending a party Iftar. Howeve r, I heard that before August 5, the nephews of BNP president Shakhawat Sikder had attacked my uncle, former Shariatpur Municipality BNP Vice-President Khayer Mollah's son Robin Mollah. On Friday night, there was an argument, but there was no attack or looting."

The officer-in-charge of Palong Model Police Station, Helal Uddin, said, "I have heard about the incident, but no formal complaint has been filed. If a complaint is lodged, an investigation will be conducted, and appropriate action will be taken."
